Recorded in November 1953 in The Kingsway Hall, London.
In the 1999 Penguin Guide, it says: "As for his playing, Brains's marvelous sound and phrasing - every note lives - are full of joy in their warmth; The espressivo of the slow movements is complemented by the joy of the rondos: spirited, cheerful, contagious, with a smile. Karajan's accompaniment is also a model of good Mozart, and the Philharmonic orchestra is at the height of its witty and elegant play. "The new testament transmissions elicit the best sound quality from the original recordings and make them appear in their best light.
The "golden age" of recordings was from 1955 to 1965, at the beginning of the LP and the stereo era, where pure vacuum tube amplification helped produce recordings demonstrating unparalleled fidelity and warmth, lifelike presence and illumination.
This Testament Records LP, revived from the EMI-Columbia catalogue, was remastered at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London, using pure analogue components only, from the original studio tapes through to the cutting head, and was pressed at Pallas.
