Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) composed the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, in 1806. Its first performance by Franz Clement was unsuccessful and for some decades the work languished in obscurity, until revived in 1844 by Joseph Joachim. Since then it has become one of the best-known violin concertos.

Recorded in September 1979 at the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Anne-Sophie Mutter (born 1963) owns two Stradivarius violins, The 1703 “Emiliani” and the 1710 “Lord Dunn-Raven”, and two modern violins : a 1999 Finnigan-Klaembt and a 2005 Regazzi.
