Sergei Prokofiev (1891 - 1953) was extremely proud of his Fifth Symphony he composed in 1946 and regarded as his most important work and referred to as celebrating "the grandeur of the human spirit and a hymn to free and joyful humanity." But even without this emphatic acknowledgement of the Soviet ideological social system, his work was well accepted by the public and not long after its Moscow premiere was performed to great acclaim in Europe.

The "golden age" of recordings was from 1955 to 1965, at the beginning of the LP and the stereo era, where pure vacuum tube amplification helped produce recordings demonstrating unparalleled fidelity and warmth, lifelike presence and illumination.

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the original analogue studio tapes through to the cutting head, and was pressed with virgin vinyl at Pallas. More information under http://www.pure-analogue.com
